There’s much to love about taking a trip to Dushanbe. One of the joys comes from the fact that it's a destination we might call “off the beaten path.” While it’s not the most visited capital city in the world, people that make the trip to Tajikistan’s largest city will be handsomely rewarded. A mix of European and Asian influence, it offers something that few places around the world can match. A city framed by mountains, it’s an ideal place to pick up a motorcycle hire and head off on adventure. To get there, you’ll fly into Dushanbe International Airport or arrive by ferry at the Kokul – Ai Khanoum port. If you decide to rent a motorcycle for your trip, you can always arrange for it to be delivered there. Every visitor to Dushanbe must pay a visit to Fort Hisar. Originally built in the 13th century, it’s a great way to step back in time -- and there’s also a museum located inside that highlights the local culture. One of the more interesting museums in the region is the Museum of Antiquities; this goes through the history of Tajikistan, and is a great way to learn about what made the city what it is. Another point of interest is the Massive Statue of Somoni, while the teahouse Rohat Chaikhona and Victory Park -- which offers one of the best views in the city -- should also be on your list. Hiring a motorcycle is a good idea if you are thinking of venturing into other areas, if that's the case, consider exploring Somoniyon, Hisor, Zafarabod, Boshkengash, and Varzob.
